FBI PROBES 2 COPS ACCUSED OF ROBBING IMMIGRANTS

The FBI and the police Internal Affairs Bureau are looking into charges that officers stole as much as $12,000 from two immigrants detained before agents descended on Market Square earlier this month.
According to a report in the Virgin Islands Daily News, no charges have been filed against the two officers. The Daily News reported that a complaint by two Jordanian immigrants said officers picked up the two on the afternoon of Feb. 2, took them to the Sub Base area and robbed them.
Internal Affairs routinely investigates allegations of police misconduct for 50 days before the department decides to seek criminal charges or discipline officers.
Police Commissioner Franz Christian told the Daily News he is aware of the FBI probe and that Internal Affairs will cooperate if necessary.
The Feb. 2 raid on Market Square saw special agents of the V.I. Justice Department and agents of several federal agencies, including the Immigration and Naturalization Service, detain about a dozen persons, reportedly on immigration and drug charges.
