It was ladies first Wednesday night at Emile Griffith Park in Donald O. Senthill Softball League semifinal action. The Angels put down the hammer on Who Nex, defeating them 13-7. In the males' contest, Smith Bay Posse whipped defending champions Hit & Run, 14-6.
The Angels took control of the game by scoring three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth inning to increase their lead to eight, 13-5. Who Nex answered with two runs in the sixth inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Angels.
Gail Joseph relieved Joycelyn Lee-Bobb to pick up the victory for the Angels. Teammates Angela Frett, Jennifer Jeffers and Lucita Francis were each 3 for 4. Shackia Liburd also went 3 for 4 for Who Nex.
The Angels lead this best of five series 2-0.
On the men's side, Smith Bay Posse erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first inning after retiring Hit & Run in order in the top of the inning. Hit & Run scored three runs in the top of the second inning but the Posse answered with four in the bottom half of the inning to take a 9-3 lead. Hit & Run added two more runs in the top of the third inning but the 'Posse once again scored four in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to eight, 13-5.
Cyril Battiste picked up the victory as Alvin Morton suffered the defeat. Elrod Hendricks Jr., who hit a solo home run in the second inning, and Nicholas Victoria each went 2 for 3 for Hit & Run. The Posse was led offensively by Delroy Gerald and Kirk Thomas who were perfect at the plate with 3 and 2 hits respectively.
The 'Posse lead the best of five series 2-0.
