WE'RE BACK

It turns out the Virgin Islands is not the only place that has power surges. A big one in Florida took down the host for the Source publications, along with a lot of other network operations, at 7 a.m. Thursday. But the Source is back, thanks to ingenuity and hard work on the part of technicians in Florida.
When a huge power surge on a high-power transmission line took out the transformer at a large commercial complex in Boca Raton, causing extensive damage, the generator kicked in. However, damage from the initial surge caused the transformer on the backup circuit to fail.
One of the businesses in the complex handles the network operations for OnePaper Inc., the host of the Virgin Islands Source publications.
After technicians worked all day Thursday to repair the damage and restore power, it was discovered that critical components had been destroyed in the network operations center and at several other businesses in the complex and would have to be replaced.
Parts were flown in, and the technicians worked all night to replace the damaged components. They were able to restore the Source early Friday morning.
All in all, we have to congratulate OnePaper for such a quick recovery – less than 24 hours – under unpredictable and difficult circumstances.
We apologize to our readers for the interruption, and we appreciate the concern many of you expressed about having lost your Source.
You haven't and won't.
