COOK SELECTED FOR WHO'S WHO AMONG AMERICAN TEACHERS

Carolyn Cook, University of the Virgin Island's director of admissions and new student services on the St. Thomas campus, has been selected for inclusion in the sixth edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 2000.
Cook was recommended for Who's Who by UVI student Nekeshia Maloney, who said that Cook made a difference in her life.
Only high school and college students who have been cited for academic excellence themselves in Who's Who Among American High School Students and The National Dean's List are invited to nominate one teacher from their entire academic experience. Only 2.5 percent of America's college teachers are honored in Who's Who.
Cook earned a bachelor of arts degree from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and obtained a master's degree in education from the University of the Virgin Islands. Formerly coordinator of the Freshman Development Center, Cook was made director in October 1998.
She said Maloney's recommendation of her for Who's Who came as a complete surprise.
"I had no awareness that this was happening," Cook said. "It's nice to know that I have made a positive difference. The reason I started doing this in the first place is because I enjoy seeing students succeed and actually achieve their goals. I'm glad that something I said had a positive impact."
