Sen. Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg said Monday that he is concerned about the Public Works Department's "slow movement in cleaning up St. Thomas since Hurricane Lenny."
In a release from Donastorg's office, he said he "will be calling a hearing if I don't see a prompt resolution to these problems."
The St. Thomas-St. John District senator chairs the 23rd Legislature's Planning and Environmental Protection Committee and is vice chair of its Health Committee.
Donastorg also said he met on Monday with Public Works officials to discuss the directive issued on Friday that St. John contract garbage collectors must barge their trucks to St. Thomas at their own expense and take their solid waste directly to the Bovoni Landfill.
The directive was issued because of a broken compactor at the St. John transfer station. Since then, garbage has been piling up and overflowing at collection bins around the island.
The senator said the officials told him they have "a plan in place" for the St. John problem and that he expects an update on the matter Tuesday.
