STAR FOUNDERS DAY RACE

On Sunday morning 16 men and nine women met at the Fort Christian parking lot at 7 a.m. to compete in the three mile road race to the University of the Virgin Islands.
The race was to acknowledge the founding of the eleven year old road racing club. Many long time STAR members were on hand to run and direct the race. Frank Jackson and Craig Marek participated in the run, while Ann Barnard, Genevieve Plunkett, Pat Marek, Lyn Dohm and Betty Story handed out water, directed traffic, and handled the finish line.
Leading the pack was Dr. Marlon Williams of St Croix coming in with a time of 16:56, followed by Kraige Schmidt at 17:49. The third finisher was Elvin Jabs Nisbett of St John in a time of 19:59.
The first woman to cross the finish line was Grace Tuma at 23:35 minutes. . She was followed by Simone Francis at 24 minutes and Jude Woodcock of St John in 25:00 minutes.
The next STAR race will be the Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run and walk on Oct. 17. The race will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Coast Guard Dock.
