CRASH CAUSES POWER OUTAGE

A truck that crashed into utility poles near the V.I. Water and Power Authority’s Richmond plant on Friday played havoc with electricity across a large part of St. Croix.
According to WAPA spokeswoman Patricia Blake Simmonds, at approximately 8 a.m. Friday a truck collided with a power pole at the station and tripped feeders 1, 4, and 6.
Power was out for at least two and a half hours in the mid-island area. Because of the outages, classes at Alfredo Andrews Elementary and Woodson Junior High School were canceled.
