St. Thomians, get ready. The folks who brought BeachJam '99 are getting ready to do it again.
Cause Effective Arts Program, known as CEAP, will bring another lineup of international artists to perform at Magens Bay on Sunday, Jan. 16, Martin Luther King Weekend.
Last year's groundbreaking event, BeachJam 99, featured Tito Puente along with a slew of other international entertainers.
This year should be no different. According to CEAP President Steve Bornn, BeachJam 2K will hopefully feature Salsa Queen Celia Cruz, Jose Alberto, Michelle Martelly and Kanza from West Africa. The acts will be confirmed soon, Bornn said.
"While we may not have reaped the financial benefits which we targeted, CEAP accomplished its goal — No. 1, to broaden awareness and appreciation of international arts," Bornn said. "And at Magens Bay, we unveiled and revitalized the merits of its famous, underappreciated Coconut Grove.
"With the community's continued confidence, assistance and corporate investment, CEAP will endeavor to satisfy its many goals," he added.
In addition to an arts and crafts exhibit, sandcastle and treasure-diving contests and usual beach events, an old-time wooden sailboat regatta is planned.
And a sunset fireworks display has been added to this year's "happening."
BeachJam '99 drew thousands of revelers to Magens Bay for a sunny and orderly day of entertainment.
Bornn said he expects most of last year's sponsors to be on board for BeachJam 2K. He urged other interested sponsors to call him at 340-777-5177 or 1-800-903-8368.
