A woman was charged with negligent driving Sunday after being involved in four-car accident that sent two people to the hospital for treatment of injuries, the V.I. Police Department reported.
According to police, officers were notified at 8 a.m. Sunday about a multi-car accident on Veterans Drive in the vicinity of the Hurley Funeral Home.
The report compiled by officers with the Traffic Division stated four vehicles were involved, although only two were occupied. The other two were parked.
Police said “Vehicle 1” was traveling west in the inner, or right, lane of Veterans Drive, while "Vehicle 2" was traveling from east, also in the right lane. The second vehicle made the right hand turn to go into Frenchtown and the first vehicle collided into it.
In an attempt to avoid the accident, “Vehicle 1” turned left, police said, and ran into a parked vehicle, causing that vehicle to collide with another parked vehicle.
The operator of the first vehicle, whose airbags deployed upon impact, complained of pain in his left shoulder, but refused medical attention..
Fire Service personnel were summoned to the scene in order to extract the driver of the second vehicle, who was pinned inside of her vehicle and required medical attention.
Police identified the operator of the second vehicle as Dora Rampersad, 71, who was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the collision and was charged with negligent driving.
