Mexican Sentenced for Illegal Reentry into U.S.

Filiberto Moreno, 50, of Mexico, was sentenced Monday by District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez to four months incarceration for illegal reentry into the United States, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.

Gomez also sentenced Moreno to one year of supervised release and ordered him to pay a $100 special assessment.

According to plea agreement, Moreno was stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on May 29 at the Cyril E. King Airport after he presented himself at primary inspection. During the inspection process, Customs agents discovered that Moreno had been previously deported from the United States and that he did not have legal permission to be in the territory.

The case was investigated Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
