Rhoda A.M. Burton Dies at 88

Rhoda A.M. Burton died on June 10 at her residence. She was 88 years old.

Her cherished memory will forever be in the hearts of her four children:Adele Smith (Washington, D.C.), Beatrice Burton (Yorktown, Virginia), Athnel Barnes (Ooltewah, Tennessee), Ashford Barnes (St. Thomas, V.I.) and adopted son; and daughters: Delroy Marshall and Yvonne Brutus. She is preceded in death by two sons: Trevor Joseph and Rhudel Boncamper.
Her beloved siblings:Doris Burton and Charlotte “Edna” Blyden (St. Thomas, V.I.), Rosamund “Irose” Burton (Bronx, New York), Jean Merchant (St. Croix, V.I.), Rueben “Con”; Iola “Madge,” and Irma Burton (St. John, Antigua). She is preceded in death by siblings Louise Roberts, Joel and Jacob Burton, Sara Mae Francis and Irene Broome.
Her precious grandchildren:Lt. Col. Wistaria G. Joseph (USAF), Anya S. Joseph Turbe, Charaz Joseph (MSgt.) Stacy S. Joseph Simon (Army), Tiffany Joseph; Terrilyn Joseph, Takia Joseph, Rhudel Boncamper, II; Royal Boncamper, Reenecia Rhoda Boncamper, Raydiant Princess Boncamper, Nicole Smith-McDermott, Earl McDermott, Alexander Powell, Aya Barnes, Asher Barnes, Jael’ Barnes, Ja’alah Barnes, Amania Barnes, De Angelo Barnes and adopted grandchildrenPatrice C. Honoree, and Shusta T. A. Gumbs (aka Lion). She is preceded in death by Beverly Joseph.
Her adorable great-grandchildren:Trinika L. Joseph Anderson; Michael Simon, Sharnell Simon, Tekara V. Abramson, Johnya Turbe, Jahnique Turbe, Je Nae Turbe, Nyashia Barnes, Ashley Hayer, Ashlin Hayer, Rosena Joseph; and Latisha Joseph.
Her affectionate great-great grandchildren:Amiya Joseph, Nigel Piper, Zyriah Abramson and Ishalyn Todman.
There will be a viewing held at 9 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be at Western Cemetery No. 2.
