As part of its upcoming re-accreditation week activities, Ivanna Eudora Kean High officials are inviting the public out on Saturday, Feb. 18, for a ceremony renaming the school’s newly refurbished gymnasium. The ceremony will kick off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
An act renaming the gym was passed by the 25th Legislature in 2004, and subsequently signed into law by former Gov. Charles W. Turnbull. The gym will be re-named in honor of Digna Marie Wheatley, an esteemed Kean alumnus that led more than 1,200 students and staff on a march for school improvements during the late 1980s.
In response to her efforts, senators appropriated $600,000 for six additional classrooms at Kean, along with a bus shed and gymnasium.
