Tuesday Night’s Winners: Cartel, Stealers and Coolers

Stealers Aaron Howell rips a three-run blast in game two on Tuesday.After suffering crushing losses one night earlier, the Cartel and Seaborne Stealers bounced back with a vengeance on Tuesday at D.C. Canegata Ball Park. In the night cap, the Coolers got by Set It Off, 17-9.

The Cartel 20, Dirty Dozen 10

In Monday’s opening contest, the Cartel bounced back nicely from a 23-10 thumping at the hands at Anchor Dive one night earlier to beat the Dirty Dozen 20-10. It was the Cartel with 20 runs on 18 hits and four errors, while the Dirty Dozen finished with 10 runs on nine hits and two errors.

The winning pitcher was James Smith, while Steve Nisky got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Eddie Dunkirk (2 for 3 with two home runs and seven RBIs), and Daren Lewis (2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Brandan Rausch was 1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI.

Stealers 27, Anchor Dive 4

The defending champion Seaborne Stealers, coming off an embarrassing loss on Monday, came out firing on all cylinders Tuesday pummeling a hapless Anchor Dive, 27-4, in four innings. This season’s new rule enabling a game to be called if a team has a 15-run lead after four innings was enforced after Anchor Dive went quietly in the bottom of the fourth.

The champs pounded Anchor Dive ace Edwin Sankitts for 27 runs on 20 hits, while Stealers spot starter, Cruz Soto who picked up the win, limited a powerful Anchor Dive lineup to just four runs on nine hits.

Top batters for the Stealers were Aaron Howell (4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs) and Enrique Soto (4 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs). For Anchor Dive, Ulric Benjamin was 1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI.

Coolers 17, Set It Off 9

The Coolers cooled of a hot Set it off squad in the nightcap, 17-9, to extend their winning streak to three games. It was the Coolers with 17 runs on 13 hits, while Set it off finished with nine runs on 11 hits, while committing four errors. The winning pitcher was Dexter DeSouza, while Angel Soto got the loss.

Top batters for the winners were Eric Perez (3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Alberto Medina (2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs). For Set It Off, Julio Carmona was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and Miguel Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with one RBI.
