Driver Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop, Found Through ID Left in Vehicle

A traffic stop on Elmo D. Roebuck Drive led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man who attempted to evade law enforcement, the Virgin Islands Police Department announced.

On March 28, at approximately 6 p.m., officers from the department’s Special Operations Bureau initiated a traffic stop after observing a green Nissan Altima without a front license plate. The driver, identified as Stephan Joseph, made an abrupt U-turn and fled at high speed before abandoning the vehicle. Officers later found the car unattended and witnessed Joseph running into nearby bushes, according to the police report.

The vehicle was towed to the Alexander Farrelly Justice Complex, where an inventory search revealed Joseph’s identification. Recognizing him from a prior case, officers proceeded to his residence, where they took him into custody on charges of disobeying a lawful order and delaying and obstructing. His bail was set at $1,000, the police report stated.
