DNA Confirms Identities of Two Victims Found in Burned Vehicle in Estate Whim

On Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department received DNA test results from the FBI, confirming the identities of two individuals found in a burned vehicle in Estate Whim, St. Croix. The victims were identified as Dion Ahmil Williams and Naleem Browne, both 20 years old at the time of their deaths.

Their next of kin were promptly notified, according to the police report.

The case began on Aug. 23, 2024, at approximately 5:09 p.m., when emergency responders were dispatched to Estate Whim near the former Good Hope School after reports of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, firefighters and police officers found a red Ford F-150 fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, responders discovered two human remains inside the vehicle, the police report stated.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and a fire inspector determined the fire was deliberately set. An autopsy revealed both victims had been shot, and the medical examiner ruled their deaths homicides. DNA samples from the remains were sent to the FBI for identification, the report stated.

“The department extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” a VIPD  press release stated.

The investigation remains active.
