St. Croix man could be sentenced to a decade in prison for losing his temper and loosing his tongue at airport security employees, United States Attorney Delia L. Smith said Monday.
Jamoi Weekes, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge of influencing federal officials by threats, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, after threatening to kill local and federal agents because of procedural delays in boarding his flight.
While checking in for a Aug. 31 flight at Henry E. Rohlsen, Weekes “became extremely irate and combative” when referred to secondary security inspection, Smith’s office said. Weekes “began threatening to murder and retaliate against the officers if he ever saw them again.”
Security officials determined Weekes was unsuitable to board his flight and ordered him to leave the airport. While exiting the airport, Weekes encountered two Virgin Islands Port Authority officers who he also threatened to murder. Rather than leave Rohlsen, Weekes followed two Customs and Border Protection officers from the airport terminal to the parking lot and again threatened to murder the officers.
