Irving Francis was born on July 16, 1950, on Saint Kitts and Nevis, to Sarah Joseph. He passed away on Sept. 7, in Davenport, Fla.
Irving received his education in the Saint Kitts school system and earned a trade in electrical technology. In the 1970s, he began his career in Tortola and then on to St. Croix- Virgin Islands Waters and Power Authority (WAPA) as an electrician. He initially started as a lineman, and over the years, he earned several promotions within the company, and his final position was as a superintendent of the power distribution department. In 2015 Irving retired after over 40 years of service.
In 1985, Irving met Maria, and they were married in 1988. He was a dedicated husband, son, father and friend, known for his love of community, his generous spirit, and his loyalty to those he cared about. He had a passion for learning and was often found sharing stories and knowledge with friends and family. Irving’s infectious smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Joseph; and sisters: Gwyneth “Margaret” Marius and Beverly Yolanda Richards.
Irving is survived by his wife, Maria Francis; sons: Cloy I. Francis and Moses E. Francis, stepson, Moises Ledesma; daughters: Michiko C. Francis -Simon, Amberr Archibald and Saeida Francis; stepdaughter, Lizbeth Murphy; grandchildren: Allahnah Herman, Anairah Archibald, Amarii Archibald, Arriah Archibald, Leighton Phillip Jr., Leikwon Phillip, Leimahni Phillip, Leimarr Phillip, Amarr Brady and Siasia Brady.
He is also survived by step-grandchildren: Chelsea Murphy, Kieshawn Ledesma, Kiaria Ledesma and Ka’nesia Ledesma; siblings; Lilley Valerie Francis, Mavis Francis George and Keith Francis; nephews: David Francis, Francia Marius and Casey Francis; nieces: Nadia Francis, Paula Francis, Bernadette Francis, Francesca Francis and Molvie Francis; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
There will be a viewing held at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at Divine Funeral Services Chapel. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
