Rose Canton, also known as “Ruth,” of Mon Bijou died on June 11. She was 81 years old.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Fremont Canton; mother, Cristabel L. Francis; father, Wilfred Lake; and son, Denfield Rock.
She is survived by her daughter, Desni Canton; sons: James Rock Sr. “Pebbles,” Roy Canton Sr. “Roy,” Devon Canton “Dev,” and Wilfred Canton “Freddy;” and grandchildren: Akeil Canton, Anthony Canton, Akeno Canton, Roy Canton Jr., Devin Canton, Laquasha Canton, Sherina Rock, Jaleesa Rock, James Rock Jr., Jeremiah Rock, Kyajahni Rock, Jameesha Rock, Janysha Rock, Shalaya Rock and Keosha Martinez.
She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Akeil Canton Jr., Roy Canton III, Mateo Canton, Joziah Canton, Neriyah Canton, Sa’raiyah Petersen, Jahliya Rock, Mikayla Rock, Taylona Rock and Liyanna Long; sisters: Maria Francis, Dana Lake-Streams, Claudia Lake, Winifred Sweeney, Joycelyn Darius and Jazelle Kelsick; brothers: Eustace Lake, Ian Lake, Roger Lake and Vincent Williams; and nieces: Joy Daniel, Petlyn Steele, Joanna Lake, Josephine Lake, Victoria Lake, Lindsey Streams, LakeAnn Lake, Enya Lake and Naveah Lake.
She is also survived by nephews: Lenny Lewis, Justin Seale, Joey Lake, Victor Lake, Craig Kelsick, Curtis Kelsick, Jayden Lake, Davonte Lake, Roden Lake, Tyrell Lake, Dornell Sweeney, David Sweeney Jr., Shemair Sweeney and Corey Streams Jr.; daughters-in-law: Sandra Tonge-Canton and Tracy Benn-Canton; stepchildren: Patrice Canton, Elwood “Woody” Canton and Lauritz “Vac” Canton; and brothers-in-law: David Sweeney and Corey Streams.
Sisters-in-law also survive her: Joan Lake, Cinzia Lake, Roselyn Canton-Lang and Inez Canton-Sewer; godchild, Wanda Gomez; and special friends: Marva Brooks and family, Mrs. Kelly and family, Valerie Smith, Winifred Jonas and family, Enid Gerard and family, Wilma Fredericks and family, Diedre Carver and family, Ferne McAlpin and family, Way of the Cross Baptist Church family, Arlene JnBaptiste and family, Stafford Browne and family, Georgiana Farrell, Phoebe Tonge and family, Julia Bright and family, Beatrice Hoyer and family, Jean Donovan, Cagan family, Jean Small, and Betty Tutein and family.

The viewing will be held at 1:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, at Way of the Cross Baptist Church. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
