Ricardo Nieves Dies at 58

Ricardo Nieves, age 58, also known as “Pops” or “Ricky,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 15, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer in Jacksonville, Fla., at the Mayo Clinic. He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, grew up with family in the town of Penuelas and previously resided in Estate Strawberry, St. Croix. He enjoyed a happy and full life in the presence of his wife, children, grandchildren and the rest of the family circle.

He was preceded in death by his sons: Richard Matthew Nieves (1987) and Ricardo Ivan Nieves (2023); and his parents Norberto and Susana Nieves.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Magdalena Nieves; children: Christopher Michael Nieves, Natasha Megan Nieves, Joshua Malachi Nieves and Carlos Alexis Nieves; daughters-in-law: Jasmin Nieves and Maria Nieves, sister, Mayra Montgomery Nieves; brothers: Norberto and Daniel Nieves; sister-in-law, Inocencia Jayaratne; brother-in-law, Jitendra Jayaratne; grandchildren: Christopher Matthew Nieves, Nicolas E. Nieves, Christopher Michael Nieves Jr., Christen M. Nieves, Ivanna M. Nieves, Joshua M. Nieves Jr., Halo S. Nieves, Chevy Nieves, Rex Nieves, Alayna Nieves and Alexis Nieves.

Ricardo was blessed to be loved by many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention.

Special mention: Coralis Herrera, Dr. Umair Majeed, Dr. Guillermo Pradieu, Neftaly Reyes, Ralph and Maria Nash, the entire Oncology Research and Infusion staff of the Mayo Clinic.

Cremation is provided by Crevasse Cremation Services. Funeral Services will be held at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 861 Maitland Avenue, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 9. The family asks those attending to wear shades of blue, his favorite color.
