Gladys M. Simpson Dies at 76

Gladys M. Simpson

Gladys M. Simpson, also known as “Ms. Simpson,” of Mon Bijou died on June 15. She was 76 years old.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Idona Haynes; father, Ignatius Simpson; brothers: Jerome Haynes and Alexander Hendricks (“Taps” or “Junie”); and son, Edwin Velasquez.

She is survived by her companion, Eldred “Edgie” Christian; daughter, Elsina L. Tutein; sons: Kevin O. Christian and Verne L. Christian; grandchildren: Sean Velasquez, Jordan Velasquez, Eric Velasques, Craig Velasquez, Elisha Velasquez, Omari Velasquez, Shenique X. Tutein-Lake, Ray A. Tutein II, Kemoiya A. Tutein, Shanice Christian, Johnathan Tyson-Christian, Shaniffa Christian, Keniqua Christian, Malik Christian and Laila Christian; and great-grandchildren: Shaniya A. Lake, Samyrah A. Lake, Shanyra A. Lake, Ray A. Tutein III, RaMard A. Tutein, Rajan K. Tutein, Jamir Tyson, Eric Velasquez Jr., Haile and Aazmin Ritter and Andre Velasquez.

Other survivors include honorary sisters: Susannah Burt Simmonds and Angela Burt-McIntosh; honorary brothers: Winston Burt and Stanley Burt; daughters-in-law: Natalie Dick-Christian, Neisha Christopher-Christian and Evelisse Rosado-Velasquez; son-in-law, Ray A. Tutein Sr. (Jahass); granddaughter-in-law, Anneisha Barnes; grandson-in-law, Troy A. Lake; godchildren: Sheamonique Daniel, Sherna Simmonds and Shamalla Simmonds; special friends: Lyn (Lyn Nails), Mrs. Lewis (African Kraal Fashion), Corrine Messer, Shanti Percival, Barbara Dick, and Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights. She also is survived by other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The family requests that those in attendance wear something red or a color of their choice.

The viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 11, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
