A man who had a warrant out for his arrest attempted to evade U.S. Marshals Friday by jumping off the waterfront apron and swimming to Hassel Island, according to court officials.

Hon. Carol Thomas-Jacobs issued a bench warrant for Kevin Jostes for his failure to appear in court, according to the press release.

During the execution of the warrant, defendant Jostes attempted to evade custody by running away, jumping off the waterfront apron, and swimming to Hassel Island. The Marshals pursued Jostes, and a private citizen helped transport them to Hassel Island, where they apprehended Jostes without further incident, the press release stated.

He was transported back to St. Thomas for processing with the assistance of St. Thomas Rescue, the release stated.
