University of the Virgin Islands Holds Free Temperature Extremes Training on July 9, 11 UVI’s Caribbean Green Technology Center (CGTC) and Safety in Paradise (SIP) are excited to invite the public to participate in free safety training for Heat and Cold Stress Prevention to be held on the UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on July 9 and the Orville E. Kean Campus on July 11.

Training sessions will be in person, with a virtual participation option. Training materials and course content will be offered at no cost to interested participants.

UVI to Close for V.I. Emancipation Day and Independence Day Holidays on July 3, 4 The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed in observance of the Virgin Islands Emancipation Day and Independence Day Holidays on July 3 and 4.

Summer Session II classes will resume, and administrative offices will reopen on their regular schedules on Friday, July 5.

Students, Employees Urged to Sign Up for Bucs Alert – UVI’s Rave Emergency Notification System June marks the beginning of hurricane season. It is advisable to be prepared. All UVI students and employees are urged to sign up for the university’s Bucs Alert, UVI’s Rave emergency notification system that is used to share critical information via text messages and e-mail. Participants simply add their cell phone numbers and email addresses to the “Personal Information” page in UVI’s QuickLaunch in Banner.

Those who have already added information to the system are encouraged to periodically check their details in case updates are needed.

UVI Medical Simulation Center, (UVI MSC) is Offering a 4-Day Simulation Facilitator Training Course The University of the Virgin Islands Medical Simulation Center, (UVI MSC) invites you to attend a 4-day Simulation Facilitator Training Course. This specialty training course is being offered from Tuesday, July 30 through Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. University of South Florida’s Center for Advance Medical Learning and Simulation, (USF CAMLS) Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators (CHSE) will provide training to interested healthcare professionals and educators wishing to learn how to effectively provide simulation-based training for medical professionals.

Do not miss this valuable training opportunity in the Virgin Islands.

This invitation is extended to educators, faculty, physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, EMT and paramedic first responders.

The course covers the following:

  • Simulation Philosophy, modalities and adult-learning theory
  • Developing skills in creating, running and debriefing objective-based scenarios
  • Facilitation techniques – guide learners through medical simulations
  • Pre-briefing Techniques and Establishing Psychological Safety
  • Debriefing Skills – debrief the debriefer
