The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) State Office of Special Education has launched its annual Parental Satisfaction Survey, which will be conducted across the territory. Acting State Director Kathleen Merchant invites all parents and guardians of children and youth with disabilities, ages 3 to 21, to participate in this important survey.
The goal is to gather confidential data on parental satisfaction with the special education programs and related services provided by the Department of Education, Special Education Divisions.
To facilitate the survey, the state office has contracted the University of the Virgin Islands’ Eastern Caribbean Center. The survey will be conducted via secure telephonic interviews, beginning on Monday, June 17. Participants will be asked about the quality of services, communication with educators and overall satisfaction.
The results of this survey will be used to help the district offices of special education enhance the services provided. Parental feedback is crucial, and the department greatly values the participation and cooperation of all parents and guardians.

The State Office of Special Education is grateful to parents and guardians for their participation in this important data collection effort. Their feedback is invaluable to the state office’s mission to improve academic and functional outcomes for children with “abilities” in the USVI.
All data collected with be absent of all personally identifiable information. Personally identifiable means information that contains— (a) The name of the child, the child’s parent or other family member; (b) The address of the child; (c) A personal identifier, such as the child’s social security number or student number; or (d) A list of personal characteristics or other information that would make it possible to identify the child with reasonable certainty.
Confidentiality. The secretary takes appropriate action, in accordance with section 444 of GEPA, to ensure the protection of the confidentiality of any personally identifiable data, information and records collected or maintained by the secretary.
