81C is honored to announce a full-scale gallery exhibit of impressionist oil paintings with an opening celebration scheduled for 5-10 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at its downtown location on Strand Gade in historic Charlotte Amalie. The featured exhibition showcases artist Maxim Kovalsky’s “Impressionist Reflections in Oil,” a collection of oil paintings depicting Virgin Islands seascapes and scenes of nature.
(Event information, gallery hours and other details are listed below.)

Show Description:
“Maxim Kovalsky’s recent collection of oil paintings portrays a remarkable presence of color and light amongst an environment portrayed from dawn to dusk in the Virgin Islands. His creations depict natural scapes that glow and fade against shadows, the ocean’s tide and billowy mountains, producing a semblance of persuasive and infinite patterns. Viewers are immersed in scenes both familiar and mystifying. Reminiscent of the works of Camille Pissarro and Francisco Oller, ‘Impressionist Reflections in Oil’ is an intimate journey through the natural light and color of the Caribbean.”

Artist Statement:
“I am drawn to the captivating interplay of air and water around St. Thomas. The island greets and bids farewell to each day with a symphonic explosion of hues–greens, oranges, delicate pinks, vibrant purples. These mesmerizing spectacles never fail to captivate my senses and instill a sense of tranquility. My oil paintings try to capture the essence of these fleeting moments, transporting viewers to a realm of serenity and reflection.” — Maxim Kovalsky, Charlotte Amalie, June 2024
