St. Thomas Man Killed in Shooting on Sunday, VIPD Reports

A St. Thomas man was killed in a shooting Sunday night in downtown Charlotte Amalie, the V.I. Police Department reported on Tuesday morning.

Police were alerted to the crime just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday when a resident called 911 to report multiple shots being fired on Bjerge Gade on St. Thomas, according to the VIPD report. Shortly after, another person called 911 to say a man had suffered several gunshot wounds, it said.

Arriving at the scene, police found an unresponsive man who had been shot multiple times, the report stated. Emergency Medical Technicians could not find any signs of life, it said.

On Monday, the victim was identified by next of kin as Michael Ramos De La Cruz, 32. His death is the 19th homicide on St. Thomas this year, and the 34th for the territory, according to the Source Homicide List.* Fifteen people have been killed on St. Croix.

Anyone with information about this crime should contact the Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211, ext. 5553, 5554, 5555, or 5556, or 911, Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), the chief’s office at 340-715-5546, or the commissioner’s office at 340-715-5506.

*The Source Homicide List is a chronological log of the homicides recorded in 2023 in the U.S. Virgin Islands, as reported by the VIPD. Cases are broken down by island. While this listing is based on VIPD reports, the Source does not include suicides or vehicular homicides in its listing, which the police and some other media do. This can lead to a discrepancy in the number of incidents reported.
