Domestic Violence Awareness Month is recognized as an opportunity to educate people around the world about the trauma of domestic violence. Advocates, survivors, and supporters come together to assist those in abusive situations to gain knowledge of the help available to them.

In the first six months of 2022, the nonprofit assisted 405 persons experiencing domestic violence.

One of WCSC’s events is the “Drive Out DV” Motorcade. Beginning at D.C. Canegata Ball Park in Christiansted and working its way along Centerline Road to the Eliza McBean Clock Tower in Frederiksted, the event hopes to increase public awareness of the widespread occurrence of domestic violence. Vehicles of all types joined, decorated in purple to highlight the movement for NO MORE domestic violence worldwide. Starting out from the ballpark, led by police vehicles, horns were honking, and participants were waving and calling to bystanders.

Started in 1981, the WCSC has grown to encompass services such as crisis intervention, emergency shelter, transitional housing programs, support groups and more. These can be accessed at https://wcstx.org/services/ or by phone at 340-773-9272. All calls and contacts are confidential.
