Man Arrested on St. Croix for Fraudulent Use of Bank Card

A man was arrested Wednesday morning on St. Croix in connection to an ongoing investigation of a fraudulent bank transaction from January 2021. Kareem Edwards, 40, was charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, fraudulent use of a credit card, identity theft, and grand larceny, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the VIPD, an investigation that began on Jan. 27, 2021, revealed that Edwards allegedly took an acquaintance’s Banco Popular card and withdrew $500 from the Sunshine Mall ATM without her permission.

Edwards was transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Police Operation Building in Frederiksted, where he was processed and booked. Bail was set at $20,000. Edwards was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections, pending an advice of rights hearing scheduled for Friday, police said.
