VITFF Bulletin: Michelle Smith Breaks Own VI National Junior Record

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) updates the achievements of V.I. athletes.

Michelle Smith (1426)

Congratulations to St. Croix Track Club athlete Michelle Smith who set a new VI National Junior record on May 28 in the 400m hurdles running 58.30. Smith competed in the Memorial Day Southern Showdown in Stockbridge, Ga., and finished first in the 400m hurdles. Smith’s time placed her 2nd fastest in the world in U-18.

She also won a gold medal in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.79 and gold in the 800m in 2:12.52 in the 15/16 age group.

Michelle Smith is preparing herself to represent the Virgin Islands in the World Athletics U20 Championships which will be held in Cali, Columbia, from Aug. 1 through 6. She will also compete in the Adidas Track and Field Nationals from June 17-19 in Greensboro, N.C.

Maia Campbell

Virgin Islands senior athlete Maia Campbell competed in the Memorial Day Southern Showdown in Stockbridge, Ga., on May 28. Campbell competed in the shot put and finished in first place with a throw of 46 feet and 6.5 inches, 14.19 meters.

Mikaela Smith

Congratulations to Virgin Islands senior athlete Mikaela Smith, who competed in the Memorial Day Southern Showdown in Stockbridge, Ga., on May 28.

She won a gold medal in the 800m in 2:15.57.

Mikaela Smith is preparing herself to represent the Virgin Islands in the first Caribbean Games, which will be held in Guadeloupe from June 29 through July 3.

Malique Smith

Congratulations to Virgin Islands senior athlete Malique Smith, who competed in the Memorial Day Southern Showdown in Stockbridge, Ga., on May 28.

He won a gold medal in the 400m hurdles in 55.39, and he finished first in the open 400m run in 49.97.

Malique Smith also competed in the Johnny Loaring Classic in Windsor Canada on May 21. He finished 4th in his heat with a time of 53.23.

The Puerto Rican Track and Field Federation, FAPUR, has invited the Virgin Islands Senior athletes to compete in their national championships from June 3 – 5. Maia Campbell will be competing in the shot put, Eddie Lovett in the 100m hurdles, Mikaela Smith in the 800m and Malique Smith in the 400m hurdles.
