Two Men Charged with Firearm Offenses

At roughly 12:10 p.m., Thursday, officers of the Special Operations Bureau and Marine Unit arrested Uhura B. George, age 24 of Estate Morningstar, and Jomoi A. Weeks, age 26 of Castle Burke, charging them both with possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to the V.I Police Department, officers responding to reports of suspicious activity in the Halfpenny Beach area conducted a traffic stop of a black Honda Accord. During the course of the traffic stop, officers discovered two firearms inside the vehicle. A subsequent check was made and neither of the men was licensed to carry firearms.

George and Weeks, who were in the vehicle, were both placed under arrest as a result. Bail for each was set at $25,000. Neither was able to post bail, and they were subsequently turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending their advice of rights hearings.
