Community Resiliency Project Announces Free Support and Sessions

Community Resiliency Project (CRP) has announced the availability of free community support, education and outreach services to promote resilience, empowerment and recovery as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The CRP support teams are available to listen if residents want to talk with someone about how this pandemic is affecting them, and it will provide referrals for services and resources.

The team shares information, articles and other posts of interest on its Facebook page, @CommunityResiliencyProjectUSVI. Virtual group sessions are available in both districts of whether a person has insurance coverage or not.

In the St. Thomas-St. John District, Community Resiliency Project conducts virtual support groups that focus on coping skills and stress management at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays. On Friday, Dec. 18, there will be a virtual support group for senior citizens at 10:30 a.m. and a group for caregivers at noon and at 5 p.m. Outreach will be conducted at Kmart in Lockhart Gardens and Kmart in Tutu Park Mall from 10 a.m. to noon, Dec. 19 and another by Fruit Bowl from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dec. 19.

On St. Croix, the Community Resiliency Project team provides virtual sessions on coping with stress for various entities, as well as upcoming outreach at the following locations:

Stop and Shop Supermarket from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 15

Plaza Extra West Supermarket from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 17

and Kmart West from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 22.

Insight Psychological Services

The federal grant that funds Community Resiliency Project was awarded locally to the V.I. Department of Health through Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) administrated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which collaborates with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Support is provided by Island Therapy Solutions for St. Croix residents and Insight Psychological Services for St. Thomas and St. John residents.

Island Therapy Solutions is a multi-dimensional mental health provider offering psychological services, including individual and group therapy, neuropsychological evaluations, psychiatric services, physical, occupational and speech language therapies, adult autism services, and pediatric ABA therapy.

Insight Psychological Services, a mental health practice, offers therapy, assessment, psychiatry services, medication management, group therapy, individual and family therapy, couples counseling and psycho-educational testing for ADHD, learning disabilities, and other mental health and academic challenges.
