Motorcyclist Dies in Accident on STT

Denby Dumas, a 36-year-old St. Thomas resident, died on Wednesday from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the police, at about 9:56 p.m. Aug. 26, the 911 emergency call center was notified of a motorcycle accident on Weymouth Rhymer Highway.

An investigation into the accident revealed that the motorcycle was traveling eastbound when the rider lost control near the New Herrnhut Church entrance and hit the railing off the westbound lane. The rider was thrown into the bushes, while the motorcycle caught fire where it stopped.

The rider of the motorcycle, identified as Dumas, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the police report said.

The investigation by the VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau continues.
