Supervisor of Elections Caroline Fawkes has reported the number of early voters who came out to cast their ballots for the 2020 Primary Elections during the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of electors who have participated in the Early Voting process are as follows: St. Thomas – 847, St. Croix – 945 and St. John – 37, for a total territory-wide of 1,829 voters.

Electors who were unable to cast their ballots during the Early Voting can cast their ballot on Election Day scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1. Voting Centers will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A voting center is an alternative to the traditional, neighborhood-based precincts. Voters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the voting machine or the voting process before Election Day.

Due to COVID-19, the Elections System has placed the necessary health and safety protocols in place to ensure the safety of the voters and poll workers. Fawkes is asking all voters, to please comply with the protocols at the voting centers. Masks or facial covering must be worn correctly covering the nose and mouth; hands must be sanitized before entry; voters will receive temperature screenings; there will be 6-feet social distancing.

“The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was indeed a vital instrument of democracy, ensuring the integrity and reliability of a democratic process that we as a country hold so dear.” — Charles B. Rangel
