Man Assaulted in Smith Bay

A man was assaulted Friday afternoon on Smith Bay, the V.I. Police reported.

According to a police report issued Sunday, at 4:24 p.m. April 10 a concerned citizen called the 911 Emergency Call Center to report that a man had been assaulted in Smith Bay in the vicinity of Lake’s Chicken Fry.

Police contacted the victim at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, where he reported that while in the area of Louis Market No. 1 he agreed to purchase marijuana and he gave a male money in exchange for the marijuana. The male left the area and did not produce the substance, the victim told police. He subsequently asked a group of individuals about the unknown male who took his money, and the group assaulted him. The victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance, where he received treatment for a laceration to the head.

Police urged anyone with information about the crime to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 extension 5579 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
