STT Man Charged with First-Degree Rape

Gregory Anthony Beckford of Smith Bay turned himself in to police at roughly 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. He was arrested and held on a slate of sexual assault charges.

According to the V.I. Police Department, Beckford was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, first-degree assault and aggravated assault and battery.

Beckford is accused of forcibly sexually assaulting a female victim on Jan. 7.

Bail for Beckford was set at $50,000, which he was unable to post. He was subsequently turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police urged anyone with information about the crime to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 extension 5579, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
