Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett released the following statement regarding Governor Albert Bryan Jr.’s press update regarding COVID-19 and the Virgin Islands’ response:

“Amidst the very serious concerns regarding COVID-19, I want to publicly express my support for Governor Bryan and the Government of the Virgin Islands during this crisis. I have been working with my fellow colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives to ensure funding of over $400,000 immediately available to the V.I. government, as well as ongoing discussions to address economic impacts moving forward. We are working on developing on a package to support areas and individuals who will be impacted by the crisis.

“Yesterday, I met with and questioned Centers of Disease Control [CDC] and National Institute of Health [NIH] officials and have been working alongside Department of Health Commissioner, Justa Encarnacion to ensure expedited services and supplies from these federal agencies.

“I am committed to doing my part to support our islands as we deal with the COVID-19 crisis.”
