The V.I. Police Department on Tuesday arrested 29-year-old Kemar Alex Campbell, when he turned himself in, the VIPD said. Campbell was charged with extortion, unauthorized use of a vehicle and grand larceny.

Police said Campbell reportedly stole a motorcycle from Estate Fortuna and contacted the motorcycle’s owner, demanding money if the owner wanted it returned. Campbell also threatened to send his associates to harm the owner of the motorcycle if he didn’t agree to pay the money, leaving the victim fearing for his life.

When Campbell learned that a warrant had been issued for his arrest he returned the motorcycle and turned himself in. Unable to post $70,000 bail he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

This case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police urged anyone with information about the case to call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5579, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
