Officers of the V.I. Police Department on Sunday, Nov. 24, arrested Shawn Daley, 32, and Delma Mathurin, 26, on separate charges from the same domestic incident.

According to police, at about 9:32 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to the Bovoni Housing community in reference to a disturbance. Initial investigation revealed that Daley and Mathurin, who are in a domestic partnership, were involved in an altercation, police said.

When officers interviewed Daley, he told them that Mathurin owned a firearm, which he secured for his own safety. Officers also observed marijuana in the residence, and Mathurin told the officers that it belonged to Daley. Daley was arrested for possession of the marijuana, and Mathurin was arrested for possession of the firearm.

Daley was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, while Mathurin was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Daley was unable to post $10,000 bail, and Mathurin was unable to post $50,000 bail. As a result, both were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending their advice of rights hearings.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call 911, the VIPD at 340-774-2211, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
