Sgt. Robert Zealand Thomas Jr.

Sgt. Robert Zealand Thomas Jr. of St. Thomas died unexpectedly on June 9, at the age of 79 in Atlanta, Ga.

The viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 5, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home. The second viewing will be held at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 6, at Lutheran Nazareth Church. Interment will be at Cruz Bay Cemetery.

Robert was the second child born to the union of Robert Thomas Sr. and Rhynita Sprauve on March 24, 1940, on St. John, United States Virgin Islands. He was the grandson of Jacob Henry “Pipa” Thomas and Amanda Penn.

He was predeceased by his sisters: Lorraine Fleming, Jennifer Richardson and Ruth Powell; brothers: Romeo, Mario, attorney Henry Sr. and Alphonse; and brothers-in-law: Jacob Lettsome and Clinton.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Corina; four children: Wayne, Wilma, Melissa and Robert III; daughters-in-law: Denise and Vanessa Thomas; grandchildren: Dalia, Makeyba, Makeel, Nia, Reyanna, Mahlik, Micah, and Malachi; great-granddaughter, Carlie Thomas; brothers: Raymond Sr., Paul and Capt. Calvin Thomas Sr.; sisters-in-law: Judge Barbara, Emma Thomas, Patsy Thomas, Carolyn Cort, Carol Lettsome, Charlene Mayne, Terralyn Hodge and Beryl Smith; brothers-in-law: Milton Cort, Ray Richardson, Clifton and Calvit Hodge, and Selwyn Powell;

He is also survived by aunt, Idalia Sprauve; uncles: Alfredo Smith, Alphonse and Aubrey Thomas, Julius and Elroy Sprauve; adopted sons: Henry Alexander and Ishmael Brathwaite; adopted daughters: Lovin James, Hidie Dowe and Marion Brathwaite; goddaughter, Janice Hodge; caregivers: Ishmael and Marion Brathwaite (Atlanta), and Keith and Beverly Fenton (St. Thomas); special friends: Maria Dowe, Joan Desilva and Judy Maynard; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Robert Thomas Sr. and Rhynita Sprauve.
