STT Man Injured in Thursday Shooting

A man walking in the area of the Chicken Fry restaurant on Kronprindsens Gade was injured Thursday night when he was shot in the back by someone in a passing car, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, at about 10:22 p.m. Thursday the 911 center dispatched patrol units to the area of the Chicken Fry on Kronprindsens Gade in regards to a reported shooting. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau also travelled to the scene.

The victim was transported by ambulance the the Schneider Regional Medical Center. Detectives, crime scene technicians and patrol officers also travelled to the hospital, where they interviewed the victim.

The victim, whose identity was not released by police in accordance with department policy, told officers he had been walking eastward on the sidewalk area of the Jewish Cemetery, which is adjacent to the Western Cemetery, when he saw a vehicle drive by heading east. Multiple shots were discharged from the vehicle as it drove past him and he sustained a gunshot wound to his back.
