Rufus Mercer of Chalwell, Tortola and St. Thomas, died on Jan. 27 at his residence on St. Thomas. He was 79 years old.
Rufus was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dukes-Mercer.
He is survived by sisters: Naomi Donovan and Shinika Mercer; sister-in-law, Dorothy Mercer; brother, Akili Mercer; brother-in-law, Reginald Woodley; daughters: Angela Mercer-Watts, Kaye Marie Mercer-Melton, Lena Mercer and Jennifer Kirkland; special nieces, nephews and caregivers: Eva Donovan, Melvin and Andrea Donovan, and Kenneth Donovan; 14 nieces; 16 nephews; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The first viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home and Crematory Services. The second viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home & Crematory Services. Interment will be at Eastern Cemetery, Smith Bay.
