Aaron C. Chiang, a 34-year-old St. Croix resident, was arrested by the V.I. Police Department and charged with kidnapping, assault and domestic violence in an incident that began Tuesday evening, the police reported.
According to the VIPD news release issued Friday, oat about 7:05 p.m Tuesday a woman reported that she had been held against her will by a male acquaintance, identified by police as Chiang.
She told detectives that she had asked him to take her to her place of employment. However, he refused, she said, and instead took her to Point Udall, where he assaulted her. The woman told police she managed to convince her assailant to take her to Christiansted, where she was able to call for help.
Chiang turned himself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where he was advised of his Miranda rights, police said.
He gave a statement and admitted to holding the female against her will. He was placed under arrest and charged with false imprisonment, kidnapping, and simple assault and battery/domestic violence. He was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Facility pending advice rights hearing. No bail was set as per the domestic violence statute.
