Heidi Erwig, the owner of Heidi’s Honeymoon Grill, extends an invitation for free lunch to local Coast Guard men and women.
In answer to any financial challenges being faced by the United States Coast Guard members and their families due to a partial U.S. Government shut-down, Heidi’s Honeymoon Grill on Water Island is offering a free lunch to all members of Marine Safety Detachment – St. Thomas until the shutdown ends and payroll resumes.
The U.S. Coast Guard is the only branch of America’s military branch currently working without pay. But crews are still being deployed and that means their families are left at home without a paycheck.
“We are an island community surrounded by water {relies] on the Coast Guard to provide assistance and maintain security throughout the year. This is our small way to say thank you for your service,” said Erwig.
A free lunch from her extensive menu will be available to each USCG serviceman with a valid ID every Saturday beginning Saturday, Jan. 26, from a.m. until 3 p.m.
