Delegate to Congress Stacey E. Plaskett (USVI), ranking member on the Subcommittee on the Interior, Energy and Environment, released the following statement regarding three grants totaling over $72 million to go towards the rebuilding of the U.S. Virgin Islands associated with hurricanes Maria and Irma:
“Today, I am pleased to announce three important grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“The first grant is for $62,376,673.95 in federal funding to V.I. Water and Power Authority – St. Croix for Emergency Protective Measures. The second grant is for $1,988,021.00 in federal funding to the V.I. Department of Education – St. Thomas for Temporary Facility Purchase. The third [is] for $8,432,456.00 in federal funding to the V.I. Department of Education – St. Croix for Temporary Facility Purchase.
“These important grants will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously with our ongoing rebuilding efforts making the Virgin Islands whole again after experiencing two devastating hurricanes. The United States government and the international community has an obligation to work with the affected local governments to restore infrastructure, provide critical humanitarian assistance, and help recover and build back our islands.”
I’m no mathematician but we’re getting $72 million in grants AND less than $2 million is being spent on St. John, St. Thomas AND Water Island!
Doesn’t look like she’s the Virgin Islands’ Delegate
Looks like she’s St. Croix’s Delegate to Congress
More funding will come for St. Thomas and St. John. Let St. Croix receive that amount cause some Crucians say STT/STJ always getting first.
