Main Street Enhancement Project to Resume January 10

Plans for Main Street Enhancement

The V.I. Department of Public Works has announced it will resume construction activities on the Main Street Enhancement Project beginning Wednesday, Jan. 10.

The first phase of work, which involves the installation of storm drainage, will begin on Store Tvaer Gade from Back Street (on the corner of Virgilio’s) to Main Street. Work will take place during night hours, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice.

“This project will enhance Main Street (Route 308) by providing new sidewalks, new roadway urocobble® pavement, historic lighting, underground utilities, landscaping and improved drainage,” said Commissioner Nominee Nelson Petty Jr.

This project, which is fully funded by the Federal Highway Administration, is a critical and vital component of the continuing downtown Charlotte Amalie revitalization efforts.
