Jonathan Samuel Peters Dies at 90

Jonathan Samuel Peters Jonathan Samuel Peters of St. Thomas died on Saturday, Jan. 7, in Brooklyn, New York, at 90 years old.

He is survived by his spouse, Joycelyn Harley-Peters; children: Sinclair, Kent, Denise, Rudolph, Raphael and Gerry; brothers: Goldbourne Welsh and Gary Welsh; sisters: Victoria Stevens and Olive Welsh; brothers-in-law: Godwin Stevens, Alphonse Steele, Antonio Steele, Julian Harley and Cedric Smith; sisters-in-law: Georgette Welsh, Theresa Steele-Williams, Elaine Lynch, Carol Smith-Powell, Sheila Smith-Christopher, Avis Smith-Collins, Hilda Harley and Carla Smith-Todman; son-in-law: Edward “Eddy” Barona; and daughters-in-law: Rhona Pinney-Simon and Christine Harley.

He is also survived by grandchildren: Shakima Fraser-Jacob, Kent Frazer, Nichelle Frazer, Akenty Frazer, Neal Frazer, Delkenya Frazer, Delkenty Frazer, Harley K. Fraser, Ebony Simons, Latoya Simons-Davies, Raquida Edwards, Rashawn Edwards, Raquel Edwards, Raquisha Edwards, Kyre Edwards, Chantel Harley, Petesia Harley-James, Rhea Simon, Gerry “AJ” Simon II, Riisa Simon, Vibert Jacob, Sydney Davies, Randi Frazer and Kishma Edwards; nephews: Knellar Gumbs, Trevor Gumbs, Lester Welsh, Richie Welsh, Winston Welsh, Davidson Welsh, Trevor Murray, Sylvon Josiah.

Other survivors include nieces: Elaine Emmanuel, Anna Emmanuel Hightower, Carol Sadio-Coumarbatch, Esther Welsh, Raquel Welsh, Pennie Maduro, Charmaine Welsh, Sharon Welsh, Blondell Gumbs and Tattiahna Welsh; great-grandchildren: too numerous to mention; the Welsh family, the Harley family, the New Herrnhut Church family, and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend the first viewing from 7:30-9 p.m. on Jan. 26, at Celestial Chapel, Hurley Funeral Home. The second viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at New Herrnhut Moravian Church. Interment will follow at New Herrnhut Moravian Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Hurley Funeral Home and Cremation Center of St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix and Tortola.
