Labor Day 5K Road Race Results Released

labor-day-k-start-2016The 34th running of the Labor Day 5K Road Race kicked off the Virgin Islands Pace Runners annual road running and cross-country calendar. With overcast skies, the field of runners (almost 20) were led by St. Croix Track Club youngsters Jack Ramsdell and Mikeala Smith, who were just off their wins in Thursday’s Territorial Youth Sports Festival Run…Throw…Jump Track Meet victories.
It wasn’t easy for Ramsdell as veteran and multiple winner of the event; Billy Bohlke was a force to be reckoned with. Ramsdell would get his first LD 5K win in 18:46 with a very close Bohlke second in 18:48; Nanyan Bansal was third in 19:46; Mike Klein was fourth in 22:43; Jay Gleason was fifth in 23:51.
Mikaela Smith was unchallenged in the female race and finished first in and fifth overall in 23:31; Regina Stevens was second in 29:00; Mayah Russell was third in 30:34; Malerie Gleason was fourth in 30:55; Cynthia Whitehurst was fifth in 33:05.
The next event on the V.I.Pace Runners Calendar is the V.I. 10K Championship set for 6 a.m. on Sept. 18.
