Two employees of the Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef and Morning Star Beach Resort were injured in an explosion that took place Sunday morning at the resort, according to St. Thomas Fire Chief Oral Wheatley.
The cause of the fire was not identified in Wheatley’s news release.
According to the report, both units from Hotel Company of the V.I. Fire Services responded to a 911 emergency call about an explosion at the resort.
Upon arrival, fire personnel found the fire in the hotel’s kitchen was already out. Two hotel employees sustained burn injuries and were transported by EMS personnel to the Schneider Regional Medial Center for observation and treatment.
The Fire Investigation Unit was ordered to report to the scene. At 11:45am, both units and crew returned to Hotel Company.
