Police Find Man Shot to Death on Black Point Hill

Acting on information provided by a passing motorist, the V.I. Police Department discovered the body of a man on Black Point Hill on Wednesday who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

It was the 28th homicide in the territory since the first of the year, the 16th of the year on St. Thomas.

According to the police, a VIPD detective was walking in the area of John Brewers Bay Beach shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday when a passing motorist flagged her down. The motorist asked if she’d seen the body of a male lying in the area of the former dump site, to which she replied no.

At the same time, the detective saw another officer driving by. She stopped the officer and relayed what she’d been told by the motorist, and the two traveled to the former dump site.

There they discovered the motionless body of a Hispanic male, whose age was estimated as between his late 20s and early 30s. He had been shot multiple times and the two officers notified central dispatch of their findings.

Police found no identification on the body, which was transported to the morgue at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

A resident told the Source that a neighbor had told her of hearing shots fired the previous night. When asked if she had called 911 to report the shots, the neighbor said she is so used to hearing shots fired that she no longer reports them.

Police urged anyone with information concerning the homicide to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 340-714-9823 ext. 5617, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9807 ext. 5556, the Office of the Chief of Police at 340-774-2211, or the anonymous tip service Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestoppersusvi.org.
