"From Drought to Green in 2015" is the appropriately named theme of the 32nd annual St. Thomas-St. John Agriculture and Food Fair, which will be held Nov. 21 and 22 on the grounds of the Reichhold Center for the Arts.
It’s been a long, dry year, but the farmers have made it through, and the community’s cooks are set to go. Applications are available for participants at the University of the Virgin Islands office or by email, details below.
The rolling green hills of the Reichhold Center will display the annual bounty of marvelous produce, flowering and nonflowering plants, chickens, fresh eggs, squashes, collard greens, all bush teas, jams, jellies, chutneys and local drinks.
This is to say nothing of local favorites, fish and fungi, sweet tarts, pates and stewed dishes everything from pork to prunes.
The kiddies won’t be neglected. Children will have the traditional pony cart rides and a petting zoo with bunnies, chickies and duckies, as well as the larger animals who will gaze around at the action with their customary glacial boredom.
