Mercedes Dickerson Dies at 90

Mercedes Dickerson died on Feb. 10 at her residence in Anna’s Fancy. She was 90 years old.
She is survived by her sons: Robert E. Hedrington-Bailey, Flynn N. Dickerson and Genn M. Dickerson; stepsons: Jerome Dickerson and Glen Dickerson; daughters: Carol O. Scott, Ada A. Dickerson, Shelby C. Givens and Alicia Fleming (adopted daughter); daughter-in-law, M. Athenia Sewer-Bailey; son-in-law, Benjamin H. S. Scott; siblings: Clarence Todman and Mera Lettsome; sisters-in-law: Rubye Todman and Bernadean Todman; special nieces: Esther Hedrington-Blyden, Joyce Lettsome-Jones and Laurel Philip; and nieces: Otis Baronville, May Lettsome, Blanche Roundtree, Beatrice Bess, Cecelia Hedrington-Gallimore, Phyllis Hedrington-Knox, Lilith and Doris Hedrington, Ivy and Anissa Todman, Odessa Fahie, Angela, Micah and Andrea Hedrington.
She is also survived by nephews: Rev. John Louis Hedrington, Rodney Dawson, Richard Weekes, Elbert Maduro, Melvin, Elvin, Norris and Harris Fahie, Raymond and Aaron Lettsome, Peter, Stanley and Lutha Hedrington; and grandchildren: Col. Earl Scott, Tremayne, Thenera and Tenelle Bailey, Simone Duzant, Averil Maduro, Cenya, Chanel, Briana, Chereka, Fathim and Fathima Dickerson, Michael Lee, Naketa Moore, Nazrad Maduro, Amal and Adana Gumbs, Zaid Bradfield, Genn Jr., Gerard and Genna Rae Dickerson, Monique Givens, Sherese Fleming, Sgt. Lewis L. Richards and Akoi N. Richards.
Other survivors include great-grandchildren: Braden Scott, Camin Scott, Ashley Maduro, Averil Maduro Jr., Deandrea and Prentis Dickerson, Zavier Adan Bryon Maduro, Cameron M. Bailey-Klass, Aniyah Nychelle and Sytierni Noelle Dickerson, Nadaiya Solei Taylor, Monet Jai Tryon, Dhamir Rhasaan Nelson Terrance, O’cean and Sky Richards; close family friends: Ruth Anthony, Allegra Callwood, Rita Mahoney, Yvonne Warner, David Charles, Ras Bob, Rita Mahoney, Ruby Gumbs, Cleone Creque, Mavis Robles, Marcelin Bastian, Irvin “Parrot” Mercer, Vanita, Princess York, Amona Dickerson, the members of the Christ Church Women’s League and Benevolent Society; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The first viewing will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, at the Celestial Chapel at Hurley Funeral Home. The second viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Christchurch Methodist, Market Square, followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Western Cemetery No. 1.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home.
